OAT and Sumitomo Announce Japanese RFID Market Entry

Sumitomo Corporation Signs on as OAT’s Master Distributor for Japan

WALTHAM, Mass., Tokyo, Japan – September 13, 2005 – OATSystems, Inc., the recognized RFID framework leader and Sumitomo Corporation, one of the largest integrated trading and investment firms in the world, today announced a Master Distribution Agreement for distributing OAT’s market-leading RFID framework solution in Japan.

With the recent opening of UHF bandwidth initiated by Japanese government, it’s expected that the demand will expand for RFID systems that support EPCglobal Standards in Japan. Capitalizing on such market trends in Japan, Sumitomo will distribute OAT’s complete RFID framework solution which enables customers to leverage RFID technology to derive strategic operational benefits from their automated supply chain operations. OAT Foundation Suite is a proven, industrial-strength solution for centrally managing an RFID deployment across manufacturing, distribution and retail operations and for providing real-time visibility on the flow of goods across those operations.

OAT Foundation Suite has already been selected as one of the major platforms to be used within the “Future Store” demonstration project, now underway in Japan and targeted for implementation within the Japanese fiscal year 2005. This project, which is initiated and sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will involve deployment of OAT ’s Foundation Suite at one of Japan’s most prominent supermarket chains, “Queen’s Isetan” and represents the first pilot case of OAT ’s and Sumitomo’s cooperation to introduce OAT ’s products to the Japanese market.

“OAT is the global market leader in RFID data management” said Toshiyuki Kato, General Manager of Network Solutions Dept. at Sumitomo. “To integrate RFID data with enterprise applications and trading partners is the key element to expanding RFID solutions. By embedding the OAT Foundation Suite into Sumitomo ’s leading integration technology offerings, customers will have the ability to incorporate their RFID initiatives within an integration infrastructure to ensure that the y are delivering the right product to the right customer at the right time. By extending partnership with OAT, we will be able to provide customers with a solid foundation to successful RFID implementations”.

Sumitomo will market OATs Technology together with its comprehensive solution to several business industries, including Logistics/Distribution, Retail, Pharmaceuticals, Food and Beverage, and Consumer Electronics.

”We are pleased to have a strategic distribution partner with the stature of Sumitomo in the Japanese market,” says Prasad Putta, Founder and CEO of OATSystems. “We believe that Sumitomo has the breadth and depth in Japan for distribution, marketing, sales and implementation to dramatically increase RFID adoption in Asia.
